Indian Education

The Indian education system should first define its goal, vision and mission. It is not right to make highly qualified immoral, corrupt or unethical people for the society but we need to prepare the students to be good citizen who can earn bread for them self and his country ethically. Indian education system even though the gift of British, it is influenced badly by the ancient Indian gurukul system. The Indian ethos of ‘Guruve sakshat para brahma’ restricts Indian student to think beyond the teacher.
The students are forbidden to think beyond what is taught and limit themselves to memorise what is taught in the ready made notes given. They are very good in storing information but they are not prepared to apply the information.
The reservation system, capitation system or merit system are processes of intake. They have not much impacts on the existing system. It is the delivery we have to review and bring change. It is easy to recruit few intelligent student and teach them but the challenge is to teach the majority un intelligent to be intelligent. The education should be able to ensure the highest value system. Students should be taught values of sharing and caring for their countrymen beyond their caste and language.
The germ of innovation evolves from the use of one word ‘why’which is again generally not encouraged in India and such students are termed as problematic.
The fundamental approach to life in India is influenced by spiritualism which is to some extent good but the Scientifc and materialistic approach of the west gives opportunity to the students be inquisitive to seek new things.
What is needed is
1.Stop giving readymade notes.Allow them to prepare notes or make them to present a topic.
2.Encourage them to be independent. Make them read other books to gain knowledge.
3.Encourage them to ask many questions mainly whys. Allow them to discuss and challenge the existing theory till they are convinced or make them propose their own.
4.Evaluation should be based not only the information gathered but also their ability to analyse and assimilate the information.
5.Focus on language in the initial years which will give them confidence and help them to understand the difficult texts.
